2011 News Items

7 Oct 2011  -   More news from the Florida reunion.  In 2010, Bob Tuttle, the AWRA President for the past 8 years, had announced that this would be his last year as leader of the Association.  At the annual membership meeting, "Stoney" Faubus was unaminously elected to replace Bob.  In addition, Peter Copesky was elected as a Vice President, and Bob Tuttle was elected as Treasurer, to replace Ralph Ruyle.  Congratulations to the new officers, and a huge "THANK YOU" to both Bob and Ralph for their past service.

The  2011 Reunion of Members just finished at Ft Walton Beach, FL.  The weather was fantastic and the venue perfect.  Ralph and Libby Ruyle did a great job hosting us once again.  Those 65 folks who made it to Florida had a wonderful time, seeing old friends, and making new ones.   Let's hope a few hundred more join us in 2012 when we meet again in Omaha, NE.  We will join the current USAF military and civilian professionals as they celebrate the 75th Anniversary of  Air Force Weather.  Please plan to join us there.  Watch our reunion web site, http://www.awra.us/reunion.html, for details.

The  annual newsletter  hits the post office this  weekend,  so  keep an eye out for it in your mail box.  This issue features the WC-135B.  We make the case that this aircraft could be crowned "Queen of the Fleet".  You may have your own thoughts on this, so feel free to let me know.  One apology is offered in advance.  On Page 7, former 55th Commander Wilson V. (Vaughn) Palmore is misidentifed as Col Leon Grisham.  I'll claim temporary brain freeze!  Remember that a PDF version, with color photos, is available in the "Members Only" section.

11 Jan 2011  -   Welcome to another great year for weather reconnaissance veterans.    Hopefully I'll do a better job in 2011 keeping folks up-to-date on what is happening with our Association.  For starters, the reunion web page has been updated with information about the next REUNION OF MEMBERS.  Ralph Ruyle has agreed to host the gathering once again this year in Ft Walton Beach, FL.  The dates are 2 - 6 October 2011, and we will be at the Ramada Plaza Beach Resort.  Follow the REUNION link above for more information.  Hope to see you all there!
